Guide to Power Spinning

When heavy material -- up to 3/8" thickness -- is to be formed, hydraulically-operated spinning lathes are used. This is Power Spinning.

Setting Up The Machine
The material or blank is placed on a centering pin and is then clamped to the spinning chuck with the follower.
Forming In Progress
As the material and spinning chuck rotate, the roller gradually pushes the metal against the spinning chuck, thus creating the desired shape.
Forming Completed
The material is now the exact shape of the spinning chuck. The follower (on the left) and part of the chuck, have been detached from the material and the end of the wooden chuck is now visible.
